Thank you WordPress!!! The team over at WP added a plugin extend section to the site. I am always looking for plugins and want community feed back on the plugins. Many of the sites I found really did not give you good information on the plugins and ratings. I did find some personal blogs who do a really good job reviewing plugins but no one central location for reviews and information about plugins.

I am very excited by this new community feature built around the plugins available for the WordPress software. Bravo!

Check out the site here.

From Matt’s site:
“Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.”

I love WP but I have found it to have security issues. WP has become a love hate relationship. The software is top notch in features and its free. The downside is it does have security issues that can be very serious. So it’s very important to stay on top of updates. You can read more here: http://wordpress.org/development/2007/03/upgrade-212/

How many of you are sick of all the spam you get on your blog? Ok, stupid question I know. Well I just check my database using phpmyadmin and found I had over 16,000 spam comments waiting for moderation on one of my blogs!

So I tried to find a plugin to handle a mass delete for wordpress 1.5 but nothing seemed to work. So I went old school, logged into phpmyadmin went to the comments table and added this line:

DELETE FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_approved = “0″;

66 seconds later all 16,000 spam comments where gone! I was more than happy. I checked my blog and for what ever reason it seemed to run much faster? Not sure if there is any correlation?

I am sure there are some really good plugins for wordpress 2.0 and beyond but if you want to get it done quick and dirty this way worked fro me.

So I tried the podpress plugin for wordpress and liked it over all. There was one really big issue for me, which was it does not support Camtasia style flash movies. And if it does I tried to get it working for several hours and nothing worked. It worked great with quicktime and mp3, so I see the value there. It would be great if it could support Camtasia as I use that tool a lot.

Another small point. When you install the plugin it by default puts a link back to the podpress site on every page of your site. Not cool. I am happy to support the effort of the script auther but give me the choice. The good news is it was very easy to go in to the control panel for the podpress and disable the link.

on a scale of 5 I would give it a 3 and a half. Once they fix the two issues above it’s a 5!

I use WordPress software on many of my sites. I think it’s a wonderful tool and it has a very large base of open source developers creating cool new widgets. One such widget is an adsense tool that will randomly insert you adsense into your posts. It has a random setting to avoid “banner blindness”. I am testing it on one of my sites. Will let you know if it works out well. You can download it at this location and also reads feed back before you hope in. http://wordpress-plugins.biggnuts.com/adsense-plugin/
